Maurice Named First VP, Five Others Promoted at NJBIA and New Jersey Business Magazine

Vice President Arthur Maurice was promoted to first vice president of legislative affairs by the Board of Trustees of the New Jersey Business & Industry Association at its annual meeting. Four staff members and an employee of New Jersey Business Magazine also received promotions.

Maurice of Hopewell will continue as a senior member of NJBIA's Government Affairs staff, where he is an expert on energy and economic development, the state budget and tax issues. Maurice also serves as executive director of the New Jersey Policy Research Organization, NJBIA's research affiliate.

"Art Maurice is a well-respected professional whose expertise is sought out by legislators and reporters alike," NJBIA President Philip Kirschner said. "He has provided the analytical basis for many of the key economic development initiatives undertaken throughout the 1990s."

Prior to joining NJBIA, Art served as CEO of the not-for-profit New Community Corporation, regional director of the federal Department of Housing and Urban Development, executive director of the New Jersey Housing and Mortgage Finance Agency, and deputy commissioner of the New Jersey Department of Community Affairs.

Maurice holds a Master's Degree in Public Policy from Arizona State University and an undergraduate degree in English from Salem State College. Mr. Maurice is the author of several articles, including "Northeast States' Vision of a Competitive Utility System" in Utility and Independent Power: Concept for a New Millennium. He has also appeared on The News Hour with Jim Lehrer.

The board also promoted Elizabeth "Libby" Vinson of West Windsor from assistant vice president to vice president of education and executive director of the Employer Legislative Committees (ELCs), and Steve Wilson from director of communications to assistant vice president.

Vinson joined NJBIA in 1997 taking over the Association's member participation in legislative activities, starting NJBIA's Site Visit Program, and developing the Association's current education affairs effort. Recently, she helped start the Association's Women Business Leaders Network. As executive director of the ELCs, Vinson will coordinate the activities of the 18 individual ELCs, where local employers and policy makers meet monthly throughout the state.

Vinson is a 1997 graduate of Lehigh University and graduated in 2002 with a Masters in Public Affairs and Policy from the Rutgers University Edward J. Bloustein School of Planning & Public Policy.

Steve Wilson of Vineland was promoted from director to assistant vice president for communications. Wilson joined NJBIA in 2000 after more than two years as a public information officer at the Assembly Republican Office in Trenton. He graduated from Penn State University in 1986 and has served as press secretary to three state legislators and US Rep. Frank A. LoBiondo.

Wilson is responsible for writing the Association's weekly Capitol Memo, the monthly newsletter Business Voice, and much of the Association's media relations.

Kirschner also promoted Sara Bluhm of Cherry Hill from legislative affairs associate to director of legislative affairs and Shelia M. Woods of Hamilton Township from government affairs associate to executive secretary to the president.

Bluhm joined NJBIA in 2000 and has worked extensively on environmental, labor and human resources issues. She also serves on the New Jersey Organization for a Better State staff and helped create the Women Business Leaders' Network in 2002.

Bluhm graduated from Douglas College-Rutgers University in 2000 and is a candidate for a Masters in Public Affairs at the Rutgers University Edward J. Bloustein School of Planning & Public Policy.

Woods is a 13-year veteran of NJBIA's Government Affairs team. In addition to being a government affairs associate, Woods served as coordinator for the ELCs. As executive secretary, Woods will coordinate the president's daily schedule and assist the president in his daily activities.

At New Jersey Business Magazine in Fairfield New Jersey, Susan A. Corbett of Bedminster was promoted from traffic/production to advertising pre-press associate. New Jersey Business Magazine is a monthly publication affiliated with NJBIA.
