Free Lean Manufacturing Workshops
In two eight-hour workshops, which are free of charge to NJBIA members, experts with the NJ Manufacturing Extension Program (MEP) will introduce your company to the basic concepts of lean manufacturing and demonstrate the tools and methodology necessary to implement “lean” on the shop floor. Learn how to reduce your costs and improve productivity at these hands-on workshops.  You can attend on either September 27 in Morris Plains or October 16 in Edison.  Call the MEP at 1-800-637-4634 or download our fax-back registration form.  To learn more about the workshops, go here.

Basic Skills Training for Your Employees
If you haven’t done so already, there is still plenty of time to sign up for basic skills training for your employees in computer applications, communications, math and English as a second language. There is no charge to your company for NJBIA’s Basic Skills Training Program; classes can be held at your facility or a nearby county college.  Sign up through our online needs assessment survey or contact Bob Rosa, 609-393-9009.

Join the NJBIA Manufacturing Council
The best way to take advantage of resources such as the training programs described above is to become an active member of NJBIA’s Manufacturing Council, which meets quarterly.  The last meeting of 2007 will be held on November 14 at the Holiday Inn, Newark Airport, where training resources will be discussed. Invite a Legislator to Tour Your Plant
NJBIA’s Site Visit Program gives you an unmatched opportunity to get to know your local legislators and to have an impact on State policies affecting your business. Invite your local legislators to tour your facility.  We will help you every step of the way. A senior NJBIA executive will organize and attend the 90-minute tour.  Over 25 percent of New Jersey’s legislative seats will change hands early next year due to retirements and the November elections. This gives you a wonderful chance to educate new legislators about why manufacturing is important to New Jersey! Survey: Your Best Energy-Saving Ideas
NJBIA is working on best practices related to energy for the manufacturing sector. We want to collect ideas for cost savings, such as new roofing materials, engine change-outs, and energy-efficient lighting. Has your company adopted any best practices that you would like to share?
