The New Jersey Organization for a Better State (NEW JOBS), the state's oldest and largest probusiness political action committee, has endorsed Perth Amboy Mayor Joseph Vas for election to the New Jersey Assembly in Middlesex County's District 19.

The NEW JOBS Board of Trustees made this endorsement after careful analysis of the legislative records of all the District 19 candidates. As mayor, Vas has built a strong record of economic development in Perth Amboy.

"The Trustees of NEW JOBS hope Mayor Vas will bring his ideas, his energy and his commitment to economic development to the Assembly," NEW JOBS Executive Director Jim Sinclair said. "In Perth Amboy, Mayor Vas has held the line on taxes, created economic stimulus programs, and rebuilt the city's infrastructure. The policies he pursued in Perth Amboy represent the kind of thinking we need in the state legislature."

Under Mayor Vas, Perth Amboy has not experienced a municipal tax increase in seven consecutive years. Mayor Vas cut spending and reduced the workforce to balance the city's budget. Vas created an economic stimulus package for local businesses, successfully lobbied for Urban Enterprise Zone designation, established a Special Improvement District to revitalize the downtown area, and attracted $1 billion of private development to transform Perth Amboy's waterfront.

"Mayor Vas understands the importance of a strong private-sector economy. He has demonstrated a strong commitment to the business community in Perth Amboy, and he has backed it up with concrete actions," Sinclair said. "He understands that keeping business costs low and investing in infrastructure is the way to help our economy grow. Anyone who cares about creating jobs in the 19th District should vote for Joe Vas on June 3."

NEW JOBS is a nonpartisan organization that promotes a probusiness climate in New Jersey by endorsing and supporting legislative candidates who actively support economic growth, the creation of private-sector jobs, and the lowering of business costs. NEW JOBS is an independent political action committee that is affiliated with the New Jersey Business & Industry Association, the Chamber of Commerce Southern New Jersey and other regional business groups.
