The New Jersey Business & Industry Association will present the Cendant Corporation of Parsipanny with its Outstanding Employer Award during the 2003 Awards for Excellence Dinner on October 21 at the Westin Princeton at Forrestal Village.

The Outstanding Employer Award is presented annually to companies that have demonstrated a creative and forward-looking approach to meeting the needs of their employees and managing their human resources. Cendant is being honored for its "Creating Value Through People" program.

"Cendant believes that the best way to get the most out of their employees is to help them balance the demands of work and the demands of their personal life," NJBIA President Philip Kirschner said. "From its flexible work arrangements to its many on-site amenities, Cendant does just that. NJBIA is proud to salute Cendant as an Outstanding Employer."

Cendant helps employees manage their time with flexible work and virtual work arrangements. It also helps employees save time with on-site stores offering everything from gift baskets to film development. A free on-site nurse, chiropractor, and massage therapist are also available. The Parsippany site houses a fitness center, full-service beauty salon, credit union, car rental, and other amenities.

Cendant also offers a number of money-saving deals, including special offers on cell phones, computers and vacations; mortgage rate discounts through Cendant Mortgage; and special employee rates at Cendant-brand hotels.

Benefits are superb as well. Cendant's 401k program comes with a dollar-for-dollar company match and the company sponsors a discounted employee stock purchase plan. Employees also can receive adoption assistance of up to $5,000 and can access an extensive employee assistance program.

By providing such high quality employee services, Cendant is able to maintain a high quality workforce.

Since 1984, NJBIA annually has honored a select group of its members with an Award for Excellence. The Awards for Excellence winners demonstrate outstanding achievements in one of three award categories: Environmental Quality, Outstanding Employer, and Enterprise. A Public Service award is also presented to one or more individual business professionals. All NJBIA member companies are eligible to be nominated.

An independent panel of judges comprised of members of the Service Corps of Retired Executives (SCORE) selected the winners along with three NJBIA policy committee chairs: JoAnn Trezza, Human Resources Committee; Edward Hogan, Environmental Quality Committee; and Tim Carden, Economic Development Council.

WithumSmith+Brown, the New Jersey-based accounting and consulting firm, verified the information supplied by the winning applicants.

With more than 20,000 member companies, NJBIA is the nation's largest state-level employer association.
