receive a 2006 Public Service Award from NJBIA. It was one of only nine companies overall receiving the Association’s Award for Excellence in four categories.
“Our Awards for Excellence winners have had a notably positive impact on the lives of their employees, their communities, the environment, and New Jersey,” said NJBIA President Philip Kirschner, who presented the awards October 17 at a dinner at the Hilton East Brunswick.
“HSBC and its employees have displayed a commitment to education, young people and the future through its extensive involvement with Junior Achievement.”
HSBC is committed to help build tomorrow’s leaders through the education and support of young people. Embracing the belief that education is the key to prosperity, HSBC has been instrumental in the revitalization of Junior Achievement in New Jersey. In fact, during the 2005-2006 school year, 219 HSBC employee volunteers taught the Junior Achievement curriculum to 3,176 New Jersey students in kindergarten through 8th grade and visited 176 classrooms in Atlantic City, Trenton, Newark, Pine Hill, Washington Township, Edison, Manville, Springfield, Somerset and Guttenberg.
Four HSBC executives are Junior Achievement board members in New Jersey and actively participate in Junior Achievement classroom programs and the “Chairman’s Campaign.” They were directly responsible for the overwhelming success of the Junior Achievement-NJ 2006 Annual Hall of Fame Gala.
Since 1984, NJBIA annually has honored a select group of its members with an Award for Excellence. The winners demonstrate outstanding achievements in one of four award categories: Environmental Quality, Outstanding Employer, Enterprise and Public Service. All 23,000 NJBIA member companies in good standing are eligible to be nominated.
An independent panel of judges volunteered their time to conduct the judging and select the winners. Mercadien P.C. Certified Public Accountants of Princeton verified the information supplied by the winning applicants.
With more than 23,000 members, NJBIA is the nation’s largest state-level employer association.
