to receive a 2006 Public Service Award from NJBIA. It was one of only nine companies overall receiving the Association’s Award for Excellence in four categories.

“Our Awards for Excellence winners have had a notably positive impact on the lives of their employees, their communities, the environment, and New Jersey,” said NJBIA President Philip Kirschner, who presented the awards October 17 at a dinner at the Hilton East Brunswick.

“Lockheed Martin has been extraordinarily generous in committing volunteer hours and money to serve the needs of the larger community.”

Lockheed Martin’s tag line — “We never forget who we’re working for” — defines the commitment of its 5,000 Moorestown-based employees to providing technology and the utmost respect to the military and those who serve. This is demonstrated through more than 28,000 hours of community volunteer service in 2005 and generous monetary support to a variety of community needs.

In serving community needs, Lockheed Martin primarily focuses on education, concern with overall community well-being, and supporting American troops. Lockheed Martin’s successful educational outreach programs stimulate students’ interest in pursuing future careers in math, science, technology and engineering. Lockheed Martin also provides support to women and minorities in order to attract them to the field of engineering.

Lockheed Martin is also involved in programs to minimize poverty and serving the community by partnering with existing agencies, such as the Burlington County United Way and Habitat for Humanity. Lockheed Martin is involved with various walks, runs, and rides to fight life-threatening diseases. Providing support for military personnel, enhancing their quality of life, and focusing on their medical, emotional, and economic needs are other examples of Lockheed Martin’s public service commitments.

Since 1984, NJBIA annually has honored a select group of its members with an Award for Excellence. The winners demonstrate outstanding achievements in one of four award categories: Environmental Quality, Outstanding Employer, Enterprise and Public Service. All 23,000 NJBIA member companies in good standing are eligible to be nominated.

An independent panel of judges volunteered their time to conduct the judging and select the winners.  Mercadien P.C. Certified Public Accountants of Princeton verified the information supplied by the winning applicants.

With more than 23,000 members, NJBIA is the nation’s largest state-level employer association.
