Pharmaceutical companies are viewed more negatively than any other industry sector except the federal government, according to a recent survey by Gallup.

Fifty-three percent of Americans had a negative view of the pharmaceutical industry while only 30 percent had a positive view for a net of -23 percent, according to the survey, which was conducted in the first 12 days in August. The federal government had a -27 percent net.

Business overall saw its favorability drop to 43 percent this year compared to 49 percent last year, based on the positive ratings for all 25 industry sectors.

The computer industry garnered the most positive views, with a net 50 percent positive rating, but that is down sharply from last year’s 75 percent positive rating.
