As unemployment continues to shrink and the skills gap continues to grow, finding the right workers to fill job openings is becoming more difficult for a lot of businesses.

Riia O’Donnell at the news website HR Dive argues that the end of the year is a good time to start planning for recruiting talent next year. Taking the time to assess how you did recruiting in 2017, what worked and what didn’t, and looking at what your hiring needs may be in the future could be time well spent.

Also, take the time to update job descriptions and make sure you are in compliance with any new laws taking effect in 2018. It’s also a good opportunity to dig through the analytics of your workforce management software.

“Whether you’re developing a formal plan or not, it’s a good time to review and hone your processes,” she writes.
