Updating HR documents and workplace policies is a good way for any business to start off the new year. In doing so, don’t overlook your Form I-9 files.  As Jaime Lizotte explains at AllBusiness.com, you can still be fined for sloppy I-9 records even if all of your workers are legally authorized to work here.

She suggests businesses conduct a self-audit to minimize fines and liability for immigration law violations. A self-audit allows you to identify problems and fix them quickly. She also explains what to do if you find a mistake or are inadvertently employing an undocumented worker.
