Affordable Employee Training Exclusively for NJBIA Members LEARN MORE

Learn about how to become a line worker or substation electrician in the electric utility industry by attending an information session for the Power Systems Institute (PSI) program offered by Jersey Central Power & Light, a FirstEnergy company, in partnership with Raritan Valley Community College. The information session is scheduled for Wednesday, Nov. 6, from 6-8 p.m., in the Event Center at the College’s Branchburg campus.

The Power Systems Institute is a unique two-year program featuring learning experiences both inside and outside of the classroom. Tuition, required books and lab fees will be paid by JCP&L for qualified students.

The RVCC curriculum includes technical coursework in electrical fundamentals and electrical circuits, technology labs and business-specific courses, in addition to the required general education courses in such areas as English composition, principles of management, technical math, and interpersonal communication.

Outside the classroom, students receive hands-on lessons—from climbing utility poles to testing substation equipment—at FirstEnergy’s training center in Phillipsburg. Following the second semester, qualified students participate in a compensated, 10-week (40-hour/week) field experience. Work assignments begin in May and end in August. Pre-employment screening is required.

Students who successfully complete the two-year PSI program earn an Associate of Applied Science degree in Electric Utility Technology from RVCC.

Preregistration for the information session is not required. To learn more about the program, call Barbara Luby, 908-526-1200, ext. 8374. For additional information, visit www.firstenergycorp.com/psi or call 800-829-6801.
