Affordable Employee Training Exclusively for NJBIA Members LEARN MORE

A-3043 (Space, DeAngelo, McHose, Egan, Phoebus, Moriarty, Oroho, Van Drew, Norcross)
The Department of Labor and Workforce Development (DOLWD) can now require proof of the identity of any worker on a public work project to crosscheck that information with the employer’s wage records. DOLWD already had the authority, as part of its enforcement of the New Jersey Prevailing Wage Act, to inspect and copy books, registers, payrolls and other records, and this new law now explicitly allows DOLWD to obtain proof of a worker’s identity to prevent fraudulent employment practices on public projects.

Signed by the Governor January 19, 2016 (P.L.2015, c.281)
