The leisure and hospitality industry in New Jersey has exploded over the past year, creating 40 percent of the state’s new private sector jobs, according to numbers from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.

NJ101.5 Radio’s Dino Flammia reports that the data, compiled by commercial real estate and investment firm CBRE, show the industry added 26,500 jobs from July 2016 to July 2017.

NJBIA President and CEO Michele Siekerka noted that tourism continues to be a significant part of New Jersey’s economy.

“One out of 10 New Jersey jobs depends on tourism, whether it be direct or indirect,” Siekerka said.
