Menendez Re-elected – Democrat Bob Menendez beat Republican challenger Bob Hugin 53 percent to 44 percent to retain his U.S. Senate seat.

House of Representatives – All the Democratic Representatives were re-elected.

2nd District – Democrat Jeff Van Drew, a state senator from Cape May County and a dentist by trade, will replace retiring Republican Congressman Frank LoBiondo, who was first elected in 1994. Van Drew defeated Republican attorney Seth Grossman 52 percent to 46 percent.

3rd District – Democrat Andy Kim has claimed victory in the 3rd Congressional District after mail-in ballots gave him a 2,600-vote lead over Republican Incumbent Tom MacArthur in Tuesday’s election. Congressman MacArthur has not conceded, as there are thousands of provisional ballots which have not yet been counted.

5th District – The lone Democratic seat that was thought to be at risk in the state belongs to U.S. Rep Josh Gottheimer, who is finishing up his first term in the House. Gottheimer easily fended off a challenge from Republican John McCann, general counsel to the Bergen County Sheriff.

7th District – Democrat Tom Malinowski defeated six-term incumbent Republican Congressman Leonard Lance 50 percent to 48 percent. Malinowski served as an Assistant Secretary of State for Democracy, Human Rights, and Labor under President Obama.

11th District – Democrat Mikie Sherrill, a former Navy pilot and Assistant U.S. Attorney, defeated longtime Republican Assemblyman Jay Webber 56 percent to 43 percent to replace retiring Republican Congressman Rodney Frelinghuysen.

Public Question No. 1 – Voters approved a $500 million bond issue to support New Jersey vocational-technical schools. NJBIA supported the measure, viewing it as key to increasing the number of skilled workers and easing New Jersey’s labor shortage. Read More…
