Affordable Employee Training Exclusively for NJBIA Members LEARN MORE

NJBIA President & CEO Michele Siekerka issued the following statement today on the Governor’s proposal regarding Horizon Blue Cross Blue Shield of NJ

“The New Jersey Business & Industry Association opposes Governor Christie’s plan to force Horizon BCBSNJ to draw down capital reserves meant for the protection of its 3.8 million policyholders so that the state can use up to $300 million a year for charity care and Medicaid.

“Horizon’s capital reserves are the monies New Jersey businesses and their employees have paid in premiums. These funds serve as a safeguard against unexpected increases in future healthcare claims and help maintain price stability for policyholders. Requiring Horizon to redirect hundreds of millions of dollars for other state purposes, no matter how well-intentioned, is imprudent, especially given the uncertainty in the health insurance market amid the ongoing discussions in Washington, D.C. about repealing and replacing the Affordable Care Act.

“NJBIA believes it would be improper for the state to meddle with the composition of a nonprofit company’s board or use legislation to force Horizon BCBSNJ to take action that puts policyholders at risk of higher premiums and jeopardizes the insurer’s ability to pay claims.”

Our Governor is an Idiot. Without knowing how it is going to affect the people of New Jersey when the President and the Congress can not decide what they are doing would be a mistake. Since his insurance is paid by New Jersey he does not have to worry about how to pay for insurance and medicine like the rest of us., with the exception of his friends. He is on his way out. Stay with the opioid problem Christie and leave the insurance company alone. Tell Obama to pay for Medicare and charity care as that was his bright Idea.

  2. Bonnie says:

So he wants the hardworking, middle class to get screwed again. Unbelievable.

  3. George Collict says:

Finally… NJBIA has seen the real Chris Christie. It took you long enough.

  4. Judith says:

As a small business owner I find it a constant struggle to meet the rising costs of non-contributory health care for my employees. It is the middle class who will pay the price with decreased coverage from their employers or more out of pocket expenses to meet higher deductibles. What sort of precedent does this set for large companies if the state can mandate that funds be syphoned off for charity?

  5. Mary says:

Leave the hard-working middle class alone! We are tired of having to pay for everything and everyone while trying to live on reduced salaries to take care of our own families. As a previous poster stated, why should Christie care about us when no money is coming out of his pocket and none of his benefits will be affected. I say leave our insurance alone!!!

  6. Ralph Ruocco says:

Chris Christie only knows how to eat .Dear Chris, what’s your favorite desert ?
Have you ever worked in the private sector. I doubt it. Health care is easy when you don,t pay for it. Your governor for 8 years and federal prosecutor for 8 years .You lived off the tax payer all your life and now your trying to get a job with the trump administration. Another tax payer funded job.You couldn,t make a profit. Do you know what a profit is. And this comes from someone who voted for you twice. What a mistake that was !
