Gov. Chris Christie signed  legislation, S-1913 (Addiego, Greenstein), that restricts retail establishments from collecting and using certain consumer information contained in the electronic data embedded in identification cards, such as driver’s licenses. Stores will still be able to scan a shopper’s ID to verify identity or age, but they cannot retain the consumer’s personal information or sell that information to  third-parties. The law takes effect Oct. 1, 2017.
