NJ Tech Council 2017 Innovation Forecast at Bell Works Highlighted NJ Collaborative Companies  Holmdel – Andrew Sheldon reports in NJBIZ that NJ Tech Council President Jim Barrood said he couldn’t imagine holding the group’s 2017 Innovation Forecast anywhere but Bell Works. “We are back in this historic (place) that is being reimagined and looking amazing,” he said. “This is a great symbol for New Jersey.” The February 23 event mirrored the goal of the event, according to Barrood.

 

SSTI: Nine States, Including New Jersey, Explore Science Policy Fellowships Westerville, OH – Ellen Marrison reports on State Science & Technology Institute (SSTI) that after training nearly 80Ph.D. scientists and engineers in the craft of policy making, the California Council on Science and Technology (CCST) has awarded planning grants to nine other states to evaluate the potential to create a policy fellowship for scientists and engineers in their state capital.

NJIT to Host Inauguration of Institute of Brain and Neuroscience Research and President’s Forum March 6 Newark – New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT) will host the Inauguration of the Institute of Brain and Neuroscience Research (IBNR) and President’s Forum March 6, 2017, 10 a.m. 3 p.m. in the Campus Center Atrium. The IBNR was created to be the primary home for all neuroscience initiatives at NJIT, functioning as an umbrella and organizing framework for diverse areas, from basic research that looks at how animal behavior is generated in the nervous system, to mathematical modeling of neuronal oscillations, to brain imaging, to neurorehabilitation.

 

NJEDA’s Angel Investor Tax Credit Fuels Investment in NJ Biotechnology Firms
Trenton – New Jersey Business reports that New Jersey’s Angel Investor Tax Credit Program boosted investment in local tech firms to a record number in 2016. As Lilo Stainton reported in the news website NJ Spotlight, the NJ Economic Development Authority (EDA) approved 251 applications for angel investor tax credits that spurred more than $96 million in private investments, the highest annual total since the program was launched three years ago.
NJBIZ Interview with Stevens Institute President Nariman Farvardin on Preparing Students for a STEM-Driven Workforce Hoboken – Andrew Sheldon reports in NJBIZ that when Nariman Farvardin became the president of Stevens Institute of Technology in 2011, he became a driving force behind a 10-year strategic plan called: “The Future. Ours to Create.” Its goal was to increase the awareness and impact of the institution. Five years later, the school released a study charting the progress made on these goals and Farvardin couldn’t be happier.
