Raritan Valley Community College in Branchburg held a ribbon-cutting ceremony September 12 marking the official opening of its new Occupational Therapy Assistant laboratory.

Located in the College’s Hunterdon Hall, the lab features durable medical equipment such as hospital beds, canes, walkers and wheelchairs as well as a plethora of pediatric tools and materials to perform evaluations and assessments. The space also includes a functional kitchen and bathroom to enable students to gain experience working with clients in real-life situations.

In January 2018 RVCC became the first community college in New Jersey to offer an Associate of Applied Science (AAS) degree for an in-demand career as an Occupational Therapy Assistant (OTA). The program is designed to be completed in two-and-a-half years, with four semesters of full-time coursework and one semester of full-time clinical fieldwork. The new program’s first cohort of 16 students began its second semester this fall.

RVCC’s OTA program is currently accepting applications for the second cohort starting in the Spring 2019 Semester in January.
